History

Atelier Torbjörn Tillander's story starts from St. Petersburg in 1860.

Alexander E. Tillander, the grandfather of the grandfather of the current manager, Tina Tillander, left Helsinki for St. Petersburg at the tender age of 11 and opened his first goldsmith shop at 23. The shop became successful and supplied goods to the family of Tsar Nikolai II, for instance.

The Revolution forced the Tillander family to relocate their business to their home country, Finland. After a few generations of Tillanders, Torbjörn Tillander became the director of the company's goldsmith workshop. He then went on to establish his own atelier, where he focused on designing and creating exclusive made-to-order products for private customers.

Atelier Torbjörn Tillander continues this tradition today, with Torbjörn's daughter, Tina at the wheel of the company. Appreciation of traditional working methods on one hand and courage to try out new things on the other hand are some of Atelier Torbjörn Tillander's strengths. These result in carefully hand-crafted, unique, and valuable creations we can be proud of.

Torbjörn Tillander

Torbjörn Tillander, Tina’s father, established his first workshop in 1956. Up until then he had worked as an apprentice in the family business.

Paula Tillander

Tina’s mother, Paula, met Torbjörn in the 1960s and soon developed a passion for the business she was to become a part of. She graduated as a master gemmologist and became a certified expert of gemstones. 

Tina Tillander

Tina Tillander has managed the company since 1994. She carries the main responsibility for designing the pieces and her strengths as a designer lie in her authentic and spontaneous communication with the clients, as well as her bold, innovative and daring vision.

Jenny Tillander

Tina’s daughter Jenny has been actively involved with the company since 2014. In addition to her degree in gemology from the renowned Gemological Institute of America, Jenny has remarkable natural talent in customer service. As the youngest of the family, she also ensures that the product range is always up to date with current trends. Jenny designed her first jewellery collection ‘Transparency’ for Atelier Torbjörn Tillander in 2020. You can read more about it here.
